museotaurinosalamanca.es, 24/05/2018

Salamanca is one of the regions with the greatest bullfighting tradition in Spain.

The countryside in Salamanca is a land of bulls and, in addition, has been the cradle of great bullfighters such as El Viti, Julio Robles and El Niño de la Capea, among others. For all this, in Salamanca La Fiesta is lived in a special way, thanks to the roots that it has had in the capital charra throughout the centuries.

The fair of the Virgin of the Vega is the maximum exponent of the bullfighting celebrations that are celebrated in Salamanca. Its roots are found in the cattle fairs that were held centuries ago in the city.

Every year in September, the best right-handers of the current panorama come together in the Plaza de Toros de La Glorieta. Inaugurated in 1893, this impressive bullfighting coso of neomudéjar air hosts a total of 10,858 spectators and is located on Paseo de la Merced.

The School of Tauromaquia of Salamanca was created in 1985. In it, students are trained with practical theoretical teachings related to the various types of bullfighting and at the same time receive information on the cultural and professional aspects that surround the bullfighting world, thus fulfilling the objectives of promoting quality teaching and promoting bullfighting.
