Ieronimus. Cathedral Towers

1 hour
Ieronimus is the Latin name for Don Jerónimo de Périgueux (1060?-1120), one of the most celebrated Spanish bishops of French origin, a key figure in the Reconquista, chaplain to El Cid Campeador and Bishop of Valencia, who was assigned to Salamanca when the diocese was re-established in 1102, during its Christian repopulation by Count Raimundo de Borgoña and Doña Urraca.
The Cathedral Towers are one of Salamanca's most important symbols. From a distance, they define its profile, the skyline; and up close, at 110 meters tall, they dominate the city. A tour of their interior offers the opportunity to delve into their construction history, exploring 900 years of art and history through the "Ieronimus" documentary exhibition. A journey through the cathedral towers, amidst battlements, pinnacles, and gargoyles, allows visitors to admire the Old Cathedral and its magnificent altarpiece; the New Cathedral from its triforium; the city from a privileged vantage point; and the Tormes River plain. A unique perspective, a true discovery, and a new contribution from the Cathedral to the city.
