PARQUE DE LA ALDEHUELA
Parque de la Aldehuela is an extensive green area located to the east of the city. It is situated on the right bank of the Tormes River, in the stretch between the capital city and the town of Cabrerizos. Covering approximately forty hectares, it is Salamanca's largest sports complex. It is divided into two main areas: the Ciudad Deportiva de la Aldehuela (CDA) and the Monte de la Aldehuela. These areas combine sports facilities with green spaces and walking paths. The CDA boasts multiple facilities for leisure and sports, such as tennis and padel courts, a rugby field, athletics tracks, and football pitches, among others. Additionally, there is a children's playground, an outdoor fitness circuit, and a swimming pool complex. Beyond the sports area, visitors can access the Monte de La Aldehuela, a large wooded space traversed by trails and featuring picnic areas.

Parque de La Aldehuela, located on the outskirts of the city, gets its name from a small village – hence 'aldehuela' (meaning small village) – that once existed on the right bank of the Tormes River. It was situated between the localities of Salamanca and Cabrerizos. This village was a fiefdom of Don Diego de Guzmán, one of the representatives that Salamanca sent to the Santa Junta de Ávila during the Comuneros' War.
By the mid-19th century, the place had four inhabitants. Madoz's dictionary refers to it as unpopulated and describes it as an area of pastures and ash woodland covering nearly 100 hectares. In the center of this unpopulated area, there was a house with a square tower known as Castillo de la Aldehuela. At that time, part of its surface belonged to the Marquess of Almarza and another part to the Marquess of Montellano. The area was already used then as a recreational zone by the citizens of Salamanca, who celebrated the festivities of Saint John and Saint Peter here.
By the late 20th century, La Aldehuela de los Guzmanes consisted of two estates: El Baldío de la Aldehuela, within the municipal district of Salamanca (12 hectares), and La Aldehuela de los Guzmanes itself, belonging to the municipal district of Cabrerizos (58.5 hectares). By agreement between both localities, the boundaries were modified, and both parts became part of Salamanca's municipal district. In 1985, a public tender was launched to award the construction of the sports city. The winning team was led by Alejandro de la Sota. The Municipal Plenary Session of December '86 approved the first phase of the project for the creation of infrastructure and the development of the land.
The chosen area was a plain in one of the Tormes River's meanders. The space was configured into two large zones: the Ciudad Deportiva de la Aldehuela (CDA) and the Public Utility Woodland of La Aldehuela de los Guzmanes. Both spaces were delimited by fences, although a connecting passage was left between them. The Ciudad Deportiva de la Aldehuela was designed for grassroots and professional sports, as well as an area for rest, leisure, and recreation. Today, we can enjoy wonderful facilities here to practice all kinds of sports.
What is now Parque de la Aldehuela, prior to its declaration as Public Utility Woodland, was dedicated to reforestation and timber exploitation. In 1986, it was declared Public Utility Woodland. The space was remodeled by the General Directorate of Forests of the Regional Government of Castilla y León according to guidelines proposed by the City Council and was inaugurated in 1991. It comprises 13 hectares situated next to the Sports City, traversed by trails, interspersed with picnic areas, barbecue areas, and children's areas.
